The Story Behind the Design

The dragon imagery is drawn from a Meiji-era album by Sugitani Sesshō. Kosei Art interprets the composition through natural urushi lacquer, gold leaf and traditional tansu fittings, giving the lamp a sculptural presence in a contemporary interior.

The founder

From architecture to objects

For Michio Fujinami, architecture, interiors and the objects within them form one living environment. Kosei Art brings this philosophy to furniture and objects through Japanese cultural references and Vietnamese lacquer craftsmanship.

Qualified as an architect in Japan and Singapore, he founded Fujinami Architects & Associates in 1989. The practice received the BCA Best Buildable Design Award in 1999 for its Sumitomo Warehouse project.
