The founder

From architecture to objects

For Michio Fujinami, a building, its interior and the objects within it form one living environment. His architectural practice brings Japanese aesthetics into harmony with the culture, climate and surroundings of each place.

Kosei Art brings this philosophy to furniture and objects. Japanese art and design provide a cultural point of departure. Across the lacquer collection, Vietnamese craftsmanship gives these references surface, depth and presence in the home.

Qualified as an architect in Japan and Singapore, he founded Fujinami Architects & Associates in 1989. The practice received the BCA Best Buildable Design Award in 1999 for its Sumitomo Warehouse project.

Art Embedded in Lacquer

Hand-painted imagery, preserved leaves and decorative materials appear across the lacquer collection. Lacquer brings depth and contrast, inviting a closer look.

Metal corner fittings

The center tables and Go board feature Japanese tansu kanagu. Painting, lacquer and metalwork give these pieces an architectural presence.
