The Story Behind the Design

Iris Reverie draws on the iris imagery of Ogata Kōrin, whose compositions made blue flowers, green leaves and gold ground a defining expression of the Rinpa tradition.

Kosei Art adapts this visual language into an arrangement of irises and seasonal foliage within shaped gold fields on black lacquer. The motifs continue onto the two bowls, bringing color and movement to a set made for play and display.

The founder

From architecture to objects

For Michio Fujinami, architecture, interiors and the objects within them form one living environment. Kosei Art brings this philosophy to furniture and objects through Japanese cultural references and Vietnamese lacquer craftsmanship.

Qualified as an architect in Japan and Singapore, he founded Fujinami Architects & Associates in 1989. The practice received the BCA Best Buildable Design Award in 1999 for its Sumitomo Warehouse project.
