Japanese design, Vietnamese lacquer craft
Japanese cultural references and Vietnamese lacquer craftsmanship meet in the Kosei Art collection. Architect and artist Michio Fujinami brings these influences into furniture and everyday objects, combining an architectural eye with painted imagery and decorative detail.
An architect’s eye
Historic Japanese paintings, sword guards and inrō inspire the collection. These references appear across surfaces and fittings, inviting a closer look at an object that also has a practical place in the home.
A relationship with craft
Over more than 27 years working with craftspeople in Vietnam, Michio has developed a close relationship with their lacquer craftsmanship. He personally supervises each piece, from the design to its finishing.
